General Update.
It's been quite a busy several weeks. I administered my last final exam of the Fall '06 semester on Dec 20th, and then turned around and gave a talk on my book later that day. I've posted the videos from that talk elsewhere on this website.
I see that I have some correspondence about this blog's various topics. I'll answer those shortly. I appologize for not doing so sooner, however, I have been quite overwhelmingly busy.
One comment though needs to be addressed more publicly. This is from someone who informs me that Greg Palast has "demolished" the concept of peak oil in his recent book "Armed Madhouse".
I know Greg somewhat. Back in 2002 I arranged for him, and our mutual acquaintance, Congressman Bob Filner, to speak at Cal State San Marcos. As Greg's originally from the San Diego area, and his parents were present that day, I even had his mom sign my copy of "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" right along with Greg!
Greg is a better than first rate investigative reporter. However, his accounting of peak oil in "Armed Madhouse" is, regrettably, way off of the mark. I would explain its shortcomings in detail myself, however, Richard Heinberg has already done so. Please read his critique, and letter to Greg, at: http://www.energybulletin.net/17914.html. another rebuttal appeared in Salon. It can be accessed at this url: http://www.salon.com/tech/htww/2006/05/23/left_peak/index.html.
As for me, I'm starting on a follow-up to Infinity's Rainbow over the winter break.
